Jennifer McVey asked:

In a time when more and more pet owners are concerned about what they’re feeding their pets, finding a nutritious dog food can be pretty complicated. Lots of products on the market claim to offer complete and balanced nutrition for your pet, but in many cases, this is just a marketing term used to sell the product. Unfortunately, such labeling doesn’t mean that every food is equally good for your dog, rather that the percentages of protein, fiber, fat, and moisture meet the minimum standards. While any food your feed your dog should have this kind of labeling, that’s not all there is when it comes to nutritious dog food. When you decide what the best food is, you have to start with the label.

First, rule out the least expensive brands in the store. It’s not that you have to break the bank to buy a good dog food, but that cheap foods use cheap ingredients. The lowest cost dog foods on the market will use a lot of fillers and low quality ingredients, making them a lower value, even though they don’t cost a lot per bag. A nutritious dog food will be more expensive than a grocery store brand in most cases.

Secondly, pet owners need to learn to read pet food labels. Avoid foods that have a lot of corn, soy, or wheat, especially if they’re high on the ingredients list. These are very cheap sources of plant protein, which are hard to digest for dogs. They’ve been linked to a number of health problems, like colitis and urinary tract infections. Of course, dry dog food always contains some quantity of grain. However, choose a nutritious dog food that includes grain further down the list and uses ingredients like brown rice, barley, oats, or other easy to digest choices. Some foods also include potatoes.

The bulk of any nutritious dog food should come from animal sources, since dogs are naturally meat eaters. Avoid cheap filler ingredients like meals and by products, which can come from already stripped animal carcasses. Also, if you see a generic term such as ‘poultry’, ‘fish’, or ‘meat’, avoid that food in favor of one that names the type of meat used. Whole, named meats are the most desirable, and should come first on the list of most nutritious dog foods.

Colorants and other additives are also problematic. They’re in many different dog food brands, but they’re only there to make the product appeal more to the human who’s buying the food. Look for a food that includes as few preservatives, artificial flavoring agents and coloring agents as possible. These chemicals can cause allergic reactions in some dogs, and are undesirable in a nutritious dog food. While there are good foods out there, you might have to do some research to find them. However, if you care about your dog’s health, it’ll be worth it in the end. A nutritious dog food will make your dog happier, feel better, and live longer.

nlwest21 asked:

When taking care of a new turtle the first thing you want to know is how and what to feed them. There is a variety of turtle foods that are available in different sizes and shapes and can be made with different ingredients. You can buy flakes and small pellet foods that are sold specifically for baby turtles.

The most common turtle foods that you can purchase are turtle sticks. These are great for any type of turtles including the babies. Water turtles will most likely need to eat the much larger floating pellets – but again they can be given to most other turtles.

One thing that we urge you never use are dried whole shrimp and bugs. The way that these are sold is very questionable and may not be safe for any turtles and especially the babies. There are shrimp pellets that can be used as treats – but not as a main source of food.

In order for your baby turtle to get all of the necessary nutrients and vitamins to stay healthy you can continue to feed them the sticks, flakes, and pellets. They have been made to contain all of these important and healthy nutrients to keep your baby turtle strong and well cared for. You can feed them cooked eggs and poultry as well as the shells.

If you need a slight substitute in the diet than you should consider fish foods. Many fish food have the same types of ingredients as turtle food. Don’t even waste your time trying to feed your baby turtle fruits and veggies. They won’t eat them. Other foods to stay away from are raw seafood and other raw meats. These contain too much fat and could make them sick with salmonella.

If you have any questions or concerns about what else to feed your baby turtle and where to buy the right turtle food than ask your veterinarian. Your vet will be able to give you all the instructions you need and can answer any questions that you have.

Alexander Stern asked:

Innova remains the holistic food pet parents can trust. Throughout the years, as new supplements and artificial chemicals have been introduced to the pet food market, Natura has stuck to its tradition of producing Innova dog food using only natural ingredients. It might not save pet parents money, but in the end, it’s your pet’s health that matters.

Each of Innova pet products combines ingredients from all five food groups to ensure a truly holistic meal. Ingredients like protein-rich chicken, turkey and beef, calcium-packed cottage cheese, and wholesome fruits, vegetables and grains – all providing the essential vitamins and minerals your pet’s lifestyle demands. Plus, essential fats and oils are added to improve your pet’s skin and coat while reducing allergies and improving his immune system

Here are three opinions from Innova dog food users:

Innova is a very good pet food. You need to mix the old food with the new food at first so your dogs digestive system can adjust to the change. See if Innova has a large breed puppy food. The food chunks will be larger and more appropriate for a lab.

Innova is an excellent food. I feed Canidae, mostly because it is for all life stages, puppy through adult. You could put a 9 month old on adult food and he will be fine. Just remember whatever food you feed him to cut back as he becomes an adult. He’s not growing as fast and does not need all those calories. Otherwise you’ll have a chubby lab!

Make sure you switch over gradually to any new food. Mix in the new food 25% for a few days, then 50% new, then 75% new food and then 100% . Usually it takes a week or so to transition.

Innova is a very good food, so i’d give it to Canidae, and maybe others; however, there are good foods out there that might be just as good or even better for your particular dog. Check on the Internet under good dog food for Labs. You can purchase good food at specialty pet food stores. When you switch, do it gradually by starting with 1/4 of the new food to 3/4 of the old food. If she does well and doesn’t have any loose bowels or upset stomach, you can increase it to 1/2 and 1/2, gradually, after a few days switch to the new food.

As a conclusion, Innova Dog Food products deserve its name as one of the best quality natural dog food labels for the caring dog owners.
Patricia Reed asked:

Owning a dog provides many benefits, but you only get out of them as much as you put into them. Good training, good shelter, good food, fresh water and regular exercise and a happy home are all that a dog needs to be content.

Just as the wrong foods can hurt the health of humans, the same goes for the health of dogs. There are some things that are quite dangerous to feed a dog. Make sure you know what those are to avoid harming them.

Feed your dog premium pet food and fresh meat and make sure you get out and take them for a walk or a run. This gives us a good excuse to get out ourselves and exercise as well. You could say that owning a dog actually keeps humans healthier. Certainly a well-trained and healthy dog keeps us a lot happier.

Many people are unaware that some foods that we eat on a regualr basis can be deadly to your dog.

For example: a piece of chocolate can cause seizures, coma and death. Even a small piece of chocolate is dangerous. Anything containing caffeine can have a similar effect and be as dangerous as chocolate, and that includes coffee grounds, tea and tea bags.

Grapes and raisins can cause kidney failure and even a single serving of raisins can kill your dog.

Excessive salt intake can also cause kidney problems.

Onions can cause anemia by destroying red blood cells while tomatoes can cause tremors and heart arrhythmias.

Tomato plants are particularly toxic to dogs.

Avacadoes are also highly toxic and can cause breathing difficulty and fluid accumulation around the abdomen, chest and heart.

When giving your dog bones ensure that they are raw as cooked bones can splinter and damage their internal organs.

Excessive fat can cause pancreatitis, so it is not wise to feed your dog a diet of fatty foods.

Fried foods also fall into this category and are not good to retain maximum health in your dog.

Certain nuts, such as Macadamia nuts and walnuts can cause weakness and muscle tremors.

Peanut butter however is generally okay provided you use the salt and sugar free peanut butter as sugar can encourage cancer growth.

The core and pits of fruits such as Apple’s cherries and peaches contain cyanide, which is poisonous to dogs and can kill them within 24-hours without warning.

If in doubt, always refrain from feeding your dog foods that we are eating assuming that they will be okay.

What is safe for humans can kill your dog within hours.

So, do yourself and your dog a favor and don’t feed them human food. As they always say, it is better to be safe than sorry and if you love your dog like I do, you do not want to lose them very soon. I have just recently experienced the unexpected loss of two pets and I am hopeful that it was nothing that I did that may have caused it. The loss of those two pets will stay with me for a very long time. They were my friends.

Gordon Petten asked:

If you own a horse, you are probably aware of the money, effort, and time you must invest in order to insure your horse maintains good health. It is just as important for horses to receive yearly check ups as it is for people, and to find the right products, supplies, and supplements that will help your horse maintain its healthy status. Supplements are often a good way to do just that.

As with humans, there are a number of different types of supplements available for your horse that cover a variety of equine needs, and will help your horse stay on the track to good health. You can consult your veterinarian for a list of the necessary supplies, and to learn what they do and how they can actually benefit your horse.

One of the most important aspects of a horse’s health is maintaining healthy feet. It is absolutely essential that you be sure to re-shoe your horse whenever necessary and that you check its feet frequently. There are various problems that can occur with a horse’s feet that can cause lameness, so this should be done regularly. There is an array of supplements available that can help promote foot and hoof health.

Antioxidant supplements are also a good idea. This can be just as important in horses as it in people, and making sure your horse has the right antioxidants can most definitely promote good equine health.

Calming supplements can also help your horse by keeping it more relaxed and comfortable. Since horses are alert creatures, they are often very aware of their surrounding sand can react very quickly.

One of the most important aspects of equine health is keeping your horse free of worms. There are supplements that can help you do just that. Give your horse one of these supplements on a daily basis, and he or she will most likely remain worm free.

Another important equine supplement is that used for digestion. Keeping your horse’s digestive tract working smoothly is quite important, since digestive problems can lead to major health issues. There are a bunch of supplements from which to choose that will help promote your horse’s digestive health.

It is important to remember that not every supplement or type of supplement will work for your horse. It may be a good idea to consult your veterinarian about whether or not you should consider giving them to your horse before actually doing so. You can also get more information about which ones are okay to give your horse.

Derek Rogers asked:

There are several types of food that will help you give your fish just the right amount of nutrients. This will allow the fish in the pond to grow to the perfect size and be as healthy as possible. All of these foods can be easily and affordably purchased. It is important that you find the perfect food for your pond fish, so that you can keep a healthy and well populated pond for seasons to come.

Nishikoi Pond Foods will provide them with the right balance of nutrients. You can get several types of food that are this brand. For instance, if you have mostly smaller fish and want to feed them more often, you can purchase the Nishikoi Staple Small Pellet. The Medium Pellet can be fed to slightly larger fish or slightly larger groups of fish. If you have many different types of fish in your pond, you may find they have different dietary needs, you can feed them the Nishikoi Pond Cocktail. This food can be good for all types.

There is also Tetra Pond Foods. These are made for regular goldfish and Koi. They come in several varieties, including Tetrapond Sticks, and Tetrapond Pellets. The Pellets come in either small or medium varieties. The sticks are good for long term feeding, or if you have larger fish who would like to eat more. The sticks also encourage socialisation among the fish. The pellets are for ones that need to eat their own food and again smaller pellets are fed to smaller fish more often, while medium pellets can be fed to larger fish, or with a longer time in between feedings.

For your Koi ponds, you want to be sure that you are feeding them the right types of foods. Laguna makes food that is for both goldfish and Koi. These foods can be good because often a pond will have several of both varieties and feeding one simple food can make matters easier for you. King British Pond Fish Foods also makes several varieties that are good for both these types.

Again, this brand has floating sticks, which you can feed in your pond. They come in particularly useful if you are going away for a few days as you can leave several sticks on the water. The King British brand also includes variety foods, as well as the Ultimate Koi Food. These foods can be exactly what you are looking for when it comes to making sure that the fish in your pond are well fed.

Omega Pond Pelletsare also good foods because they are made especially for those that live in ponds. This means that the food is formulated to provide your them with the exact nutrients that they might need.

A good point to note!

A very good food to have when you are expecting to go on holiday is Tetrapond holiday, this will provide your fish with all the nutrients they need whilst you are away.

Also, Tetrapond has Wheatgerm Sticks that can help your fish to thrive.

Ty Brown asked:

We are now many months removed from the dog food recall. For those that don’t remember or just weren’t checking the news, the dog food recall was where several different brands of dog food were recalled due to impurities in the food that were causing dogs and cats to get sick and/or die. These foods were coming from some of the biggest names in dog food. Dog owners around the world were running scared as they realized that they had been taken by large corporations who weren’t held to high food processing standards. To this day I often get asked by my clients what type of dog food I recommend. Many of my clients have dogs who suffer from allergies, eat their own stool, shed excessively, poop excessively, and have all sorts of other issues related to poor quality pet foods.

It was around that time that I started searching for the right pet food so that I would have an answer when my client asks, “What should I feed my dog.” My criteria for choosing the right food was the following in no particular order:

1. Quality- I love my dogs. They deserve good food. Not only that, a quality food is going to save me money at the vet. The pet food industry has a very wide berth to do what they want. It is not illegal for them to put rotting carcasses into your dog’s food or use the ground up euthanized animals from shelters as filler. Disgusting, I know, but these are standard practices for some of the largest pet food manufacturers.

2. Cost- I’m a dog trainer. What that means is that I enjoy my job but I’m not a rich man. It has to be a good quality but at a fair price.

3. Taste- My dogs have to like it. I have been through tons of dog foods that my dogs just can’t stand.

4. Simplicity- There are a lot of premium dog foods that are great but you can’t find them anywhere. If you are able to get them to special ship the food to your door it costs an arm and a leg.

5. Corporate responsibility- I wanted to make sure that if was recommending a dog food company that they would take care of my clients and that they were constantly innovating to make sure that the food remains quality.

So after an exhaustive search I was finally able to come by a food that I can recommend without hesitation. I recommend it so much that it is the only food I feed my own dogs and I even started selling it on this website. It hit every one of the check marks with no problems at all:

1. This company uses only human grade ingredients. They don’t use chemical preservatives, no fillers, high quality proteins, and the list goes on. Basically, you could eat this food. You probably wouldn’t want to but you could.

2. This food costs more than the commercial dog food I used to feed. It is much more nutritionally dense, however, so I end up feeding my own dogs less than what I would of a commercial food. As a result, I end up paying about $5-$10 more per month to feed this food than I used to with a commercial food. I can live with that.

3. I have recommended this food to the most picky of eaters. So far I’ve got a perfect record, every dog likes the taste of this stuff.

4. This dog food is delivered to your door, provided you live in the lower 48 states. Whenever I order I usually get the food the next day or the day after, provided I didn’t order over the weekend.

5. This company was not involved in the dog food recall. Not only that they offer a 100% satisfaction guarantee on their food. You can get a full refund if you aren’t satisfied. Who does that anymore? Heard enough? I recommend you check it out.
